Sorry no pictures with this post, camera in the menders, but just returned from an intense morning of weeding and mending. Tomorrow is the start of Open Squares Weekend, and our Branch Hill site is open to visitors in the afternoons so it was out with the hoes and hammers.
It was Howard's first visit for a fortnight, and everything - Orientals, mustards, salads- has grown in his absence, though 'bolted' might be more accurate (we have built a corral around the exotic kales to hold them off the ground as the seed heads form). Howard was accompanied by his gorgeous daughter Rose, who never ceases to astonish with her insight, astuteness and ability with a trowel. She is less useful when it comes to barrowing mature manure, but then she is only three.
So fences staved, a few late sweetpeas wigwammed, three loads of rotting cow muck and the plot is looking almost presentable. If you are in the area, be sure to pop in. We will be weeding around Mary's fruit bushes before fixing a new cage so are sure to welcome the chance to say hello...
