Open or shut? French businesses await Macron address on easing restrictions

BUSINESS DAILY © FRANCE 24

French businesses are eagerly awaiting President Emmanuel Macron's televised address later, which is to include details of the coronavirus restrictions to be applied over the coming weeks. Non-essential shops are expected to be allowed to re-open for the crucial pre-Christmas trading period, while bars and restaurants are likely to remain closed. Economic activity fell sharply in France in November, but not by as much as during the first lockdown earlier this year. The national statistics office Insee expects the French economy to shrink by 9-10 percent in 2020.
