Opal Fruits to make a comeback after 23 years with all 4 original flavours

It's a sweet dream come true...Opal Fruits are back to make your mouth water all over again.

The brand, which Mars changed to Starburst in 1998, returns for 12 weeks only in the four original flavours of strawberry, orange, lemon and lime.

The chewy treats with the catchy “made to make your mouth water” jingle, were launched in 1960.

When they became Starburst to match the US version, the lemon and lime sweets were combined in one chew and a new blackcurrant flavour was added.

As Opal Fruits hit shelves in limited edition 152g packs for £1, fans expressed their delight online.

One posted: “Exciting times! Lemon Opal Fruits were my fav and now they’re retro and making a comeback!”

But Mars warned once supplies run out, the name will vanish.

Victoria Gell, head of fruit confections at Mars Wrigley, said: “Our sweet factory has been working overtime to make sure Brits who love their retro treats get their fruity fix one last time before Opal Fruits disappear from shelves forever.”

A company spokeswoman added: “Brits don’t have long to get their hands on the iconic confection.

“When they’re gone, they’re gone.”

Mars also temporarily brought back Opal Fruits last year, again for a limited run of 12 weeks.

The nostalgia comes after Mars revived Marathon bars for three months last year. It became Snickers more than 30 years ago.

And Angel Delight returned three years ago in ready-to-eat pots.
