Opal Fruits make their highly anticipated return to stores across Northern Ireland

Opal Fruits are back much to the delight of retro sweet fans.

Now known as Starbursts, for those born after 1998, Opal Fruits were launched in the 1960s and came with strawberry, lemon, orange and lime flavoured chewy sweets.

After the rebrand to line up with the American market, Starbursts came with two new flavours which were lemon and lime and blackcurrant.

These nostalgic classics are on sale across most SPAR, EUROSPAR, ViVO, ViVOXTRA and ViVO Essentials stores in Northern Ireland, subject to availability, for 12 weeks.

Bronagh Luke from Henderson Wholesale which distributes to around 500 SPAR, EUROSPAR and ViVO stores in NI said: “Don’t we all love a bit of nostalgia?! It has really taken us all back to simpler times to have Opal Fruits back on our shelves.

“We’ve been distributing to local stores for over 100 years, and to see little pieces of the past crop up like this is really fun, especially as SPAR celebrates its 60th birthday this year. I think we all need a bit of fun and nostalgia at the moment.

“We’ve already had some retailers and shoppers reporting Opal Fruit Vs Starburst wars, and of course, half our retail staff don’t even remember Opal Fruits! I think we all know which are the superior sweet…”

Make sure to get into your local store quick if you are looking a trip down memory lane as these are sure to fly off the shelves.
