Opal Fruits are back - 22 years after changing their name to Starburst

Retro-sweet lovers are in for a nostalgic treat as Starburst has gone back to its original name and become Opal Fruits - 22 years after they were rebranded.

And the best news is that fans can now get their hands on a bag from stores including Poundland , B&M, Home Bargains, Iceland and Savers.

However, if you want to get some you'll need to be quick as they are only on offer for a limited-time.

The chewy, fruity sweets first launched in 1960, but the name was changed to Starburst in 1998 to match what they were called in the US.

The only difference between the two variety bags is that Starburst includes a lemon and lime sweet and a blackcurrant one, while Opal Fruits come in strawberry, lemon, orange and lime flavours.

Hannah Jackson, senior brand manager at Mars, told The Sun when the news was first announced in February: “I’m delighted that Opal Fruits are making a special return to British shelves.

“Bringing back the original flavours is sure to bring a smile to the faces of retro treat lovers across the nation. Be quick, though – they won’t be available for long!”

It’s not the first sweet to make a comeback, last year Mars also turned back the clock and renamed Snickers, Marathon - nearly 30 years since the name was changed.
