'Oozes class and confidence' - Fans hail Liverpool's Neco Williams' Wales display in changed role

Fans have hailed Liverpool youngster Neco Williams for his sparkling display at left wing back for Wales.

Despite being a natural right-back, the Reds player was one of his national team’s stand-out performers in their 1-0 win over the Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifying match at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The 19-year-old made his senior bow for Jurgen Klopp’s side in Carabao Cup penalty shoot-out victory over Arsenal on October 30, 2019, and has made 24 appearances to date.

With Tottenham Hotspur’s Ben Davies out injured, the Wrexham-born prospect was preferred in the role to Wales’ record cap holder Chris Gunter and Sheffield United’s Rhys Norringhton-Davies, currently on loan at Stoke City, who have both been deployed there in recent matches.

Social media platform Twitter was full of compliments regarding the teenager’s performance as the Welsh finally made the breakthrough thanks to a goal from Manchester United's Daniel James on 81 minutes.

Jamie Thomas said: “Neco Williams is going to be one of the best full backs in the world. The kid oozes class and confidence!”

Huw Davies observed: “It’s handy to know that Neco Williams is apparently capable of delivering unbelievable crosses with his left foot.”

Alternative Wales declared: “Neco Williams is an absolute gem, isn't he? Love watching him.”

Dinesh Kumar remarked: “Nice to see Neco Williams impressing for Wales, been a tough year for him.”
