Oowee to open first London restaurant by the end of May

Oowee's owners have said their first London restaurant will be up and running by the end of May.

Verity Foss and Charlie Watson operate three popular burger bars in Bristol at Picton Street, North Street and Baldwin Street.

The brand's huge success, with both meat eaters and vegans, since its inception in 2016 has allowed the couple to expand beyond their beloved hometown - starting with a 60-cover site in the capital.

While they are not announcing the exact location or opening date just yet, they said their first London restaurant will be in the east side of the city and will launch on Deliveroo by the end of the month.

"We're nearly ready to roll and will be on Deliveroo by the end of May," said Charlie. "Opening in a new city feels like starting all over again and we can't wait to get going.

"When we opened on North Street after building up Picton Street we were almost confident there would be demand for it, and the same applied to Baldwin Street, but launching in London is more nerve-wracking.

"Since we reopened for delivery in Bristol earlier this month we've been really busy, so we're hoping for a similar experience when we launch in London but we know it could be more of a challenge."

The restaurant will initially operate on Deliveroo following a soft launch while it finds its feet, before Charlie and Verity go big with their opening announcement once they're confident with how it's running.

The couple expected to encounter one or two hiccups when opening their first restaurant outside home turf, but they didn't anticipate having to do so in the midst of a global pandemic.

The ongoing Covid-19 crisis has made things a little more challenging, added Charlie.

"Coronavirus has definitely made the launch a little more daunting and scary," he said.

"But at the same time it has almost taken a bit of pressure off, forcing us to only do delivery orders to start with before opening the restaurant fully, which we will only do when it's safe to do so.

"We teased the London opening on our social media pages recently and there was loads of interest, so we're hoping to hit the ground running."
