Oor Wullie makes appearance in Airdrie and hangs out with six namesakes

Oor Wullie swapped Auchenshoogle for Airdrie as he paid a special visit to a local business and met six of the best of his namesakes.

A golden statue of the cartoon favourite arrived on site at the Stirling Road premises of Albert Bartlett – and a perfectly-named welcoming committee was waiting.

Staff members (from left) William Marshall, William Hughes, William Taylor, Willie Agnew, William Rankin and William Fergie greeted their popular namesake.

They were able to try out their visitor’s famous bucket seat for size, as well as enjoying his comic adventures.

Scotty Brand, produced by the local firm, will be sponsoring one of the statues on the nationwide “Oor Wullie’s big bucket trail”.

It will launch next month and will see the firm have their name and a bespoke design on a statue at Buchanan Street in Glasgow.

A total of 200 statues that will be popping up across Scotland, raising funds for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
