Oops... lorry ends up on its side after smashing into low bridge

A road has been closed after a lorry ended up on its side after smashing into a low bridge.

The heavy goods vehicle hit the Hulme Hall Road railway bridge in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, on Wednesday afternoon.

Hulme Hall Road was closed near Hesketh Park while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Drivers are being urged to find alternatives routes, with delays expected into rush hour.

Neighbourhood officers, posting on the GMP Cheadle and Bramhall Facebook page, said: "Hulme Hall Road Railway Bridge (near Hesketh Park) Cheadle Hulme.

"Police are currently dealing with a Road Traffic Collision at this location, and expect to be there for several hours until a vehicle is recovered and the Bridge has been inspected by Network Rail.

"Road Closures are being put in place, and traffic delays are expected into the rush hour.

"Please share with friends/relatives who use this route."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene assessing the safety of the lorry and the bridge.

A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said no one was injured in the crash.
