Onyx Espresso at Mayfield has raised almost $5000 on GoFundMe to help its employees cope with the tragic stabbing on the premises last week.
As of Tuesday noon, the page for "Assistance for Onyx Cafe Mayfield tragedy" had raised $4705 of a goal of $5000.
"We thank the wonderful community that is Mayfield and Newcastle for your words of support and offer of assistance at this time," reads the plea on the page, organised by Leya Aboltins, who operated the resturant with her mother, Kathy.
"A lot of the community has asked what they can do, which we are completely touched by and thankful for," it goes to say.
"As we have all been in complete shock, we have been lost on what to ask for or even know how we can be helped.
"As far as medical costs, psychology services, this all (were hoping) is covered under workers care insurance.
"There are some things that are not covered which is why we thought we should start up this page.
"As individuals and as a team, we all have a lot of things to work through. None of us want to be in a rush to come back to work. We need time.
"We would love to be able to provide all families, the staff and witnesses, customers, the barber shop and her client, anything they should need personally to care for themselves during this traumatic time."
It is envisioned funds could be used for such things as: counselling services not covered by insurance, rent assistance, income assistance for all those affected by this tragedy, therapeutic and comforting items, help with insurance claims and interim support funds.
