Onosho grabs sole lead early on at Autumn Tournament

No. 9 maegashira Onosho moved ahead of the pack hunting for the Emperor's Cup at the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament by taking over sole possession of the lead on Day 5 at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan on Thursday.

Onosho kept his record spotless by pushing out No. 7 maegashira Aoiyama (2-3), while No. 14 maegashira Tobizaru, who also entered the day undefeated, fell to No. 10 maegashira Kotoeko (2-3).

Both yokozuna withdrew from the tournament prior to the start, leaving the field open.

In the penultimate bout, ozeki Takakeisho used a series of pushes to power No. 3 maegashira Myogiryu (3-2) out for his fourth victory, while ozeki Asanoyama improved to 2-3 by making quick work of No. 2 maegashira Tamawashi (2-3) in the day's final matchup.
