Decision on staging of underage inter-county matches during Level 5 restrictions to be clarified

A decision on the staging of underage inter-county matches during Level 5 restrictions is still to be clarified, according to reports.

RTE initially reported on Wednesday morning that only senior inter-county GAA games would be permitted during the new Level 5 restrictions, but the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has said a decision "is still being clarified".

The entire country moves to Level 5 from midnight tonight for six weeks, with elite sport given the green light to continue.

The Leinster U20 hurling championship is due to start tonight after the commencement of the Munster championship on Monday.

Last weekend saw Dublin and Galway book their places in the U20 All-Ireland Football final after wins over Tyrone and Kerry respectively. The final was due to take place in Portlaoise this Saturday.

On announcing the new restrictions this week, the government said: "No training or matches should take place, with the exception of inter-county Gaelic games."
