Only one lockdown breach fine issued by Avon and Somerset police area as number of reported incidents drops over the weekend

Police only handed out one fine for a lockdown breach over the weekend as the number of reported breaches has continued to drop.

Across the Avon and Somerset police force area, 328 breaches were reported on Saturday and 139 on Sunday.

In comparison, police recorded a total of 1,643 reports of suspected breaches across the force area over the VE bank holiday weekend - taking the daily average to 547 a day.

However, both the number of breaches reported and fines issued has now reduced significantly.

Over the weekend, only one fine was issued and this was in Bristol on Saturday, but police were unable to provide further details about this.

Police had more than a thousand lockdown breaches reported to them over the last bank holiday weekend in May - including a dozen adults gathering in a private garden.

In total, Avon and Somerset police has issued 349 fines for lockdown breaches and 25,196 incidents have been reported to the force.

Lockdown has now been eased in England and the streets are slowly starting to fill up, while people are now allow to meet in gardens in groups of up to six.

The new legislation explicitly bans being inside the house in a gathering of more than one person without a reasonable excuse, reports The Mirror.
