Only Gazza can save us now

War of the weird: might Gazza have a natural talent for the alien horror genre?

Paul "Gazza" Gascoigne is the last person I would expect to be starring in new alien horror movie, Final Run.

Arguably one of England's greatest ever midfielders, in the heady 1990s he would slice through defenders in a way little seen since George Best. Now, after a descent into drugs, alcohol, spousal abuse and despair, he's ended up being chased by alien invaders in a sci-fi horror romp.

An early indication of the film's quality comes from its MySpace, where the film's plot is summarised as "Paul Gascoigne plays a misguided survivor, who is forced to decide between his own survival, or humanities!" Could it be set in a university, and Gazza has to choose between certain death and a rubbish arts degree?

This potential howler of a film provides ample opportunity for suggestions of other sporting heroes in film roles. Craig Bellamy in Happy Gilmore? Peter Crouch in Robocop?

Football aside, I'd like to have seen Chris Eubank in Gosford Park, cravat, Segway and all. Welsh Rugby Union's Adam Jones would have been perfect, cast in the title role of Meet Joe Black, alongside fellow countryman Anthony Hopkins. Which sports stars would you cast in which films?
