Only Fools And Horses' Nicholas Lyndhurst denies quitting acting after tragedy

Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst has denied retiring from acting as a result of his son Archie's death.

The 60-year-old has steered clear of the spotlight since his son died following a brain tumour at 19 years old in 2020.

It was recently reported that Nicholas will 'never come out again', but he jumped in to deny the rumours.

Representatives for Nicholas called the claims ‘ridiculous' and said: "It is complete nonsense that Nicholas Lyndhurst is retired or retiring.

"Of course, he and his wife are devastated by the sudden loss of their young son but Mr Lyndhurst will continue his career with any parts and scripts that attract him."

His reps also added that 'he continues to constantly receive offers' for roles.

The claims were first made by writer Laurence Marks, who has been close pals with Nick for over 20 years.

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, he said: "Nicholas underwent tragedy. It must have broken his heart. It would break anyone’s heart.

“He has always kept himself to himself and now he’ll do that more than ever. Now he’s lost his son, he’ll never come out again. I doubt we will see him do any more acting."

In October 2020, Nicholas broke his silence over the death of his son, who was found at his family's home in west London on September 22 of that year.

Archie died in his sleep from a brain haemorrhage caused by a rare cancer.

He had spoken of his grief over the death of his actor son - who found fame on the CBBC series So Awkward.

At the time, he shared on his painful loss in a statement, saying: "Lucy and I are utterly grief-stricken and respectfully request privacy."

Nicholas' wife Lucy paid tribute to her son on the one-year anniversary of his death.

"It’s so hard to believe that it’s already been a week since we passed a year without you," she wrote.

"Thank you to everyone who came to show their love for our magical boy. Your friendship and kindness is beyond amazing and incredibly appreciated.

"To have to live without you is the biggest test of endurance we will ever face. We miss you every second of every day."

Lucy went on to share how both she and Nicholas love their son with "every fibre of their being", as she explained how life threw the family "the cruellest card".

She went on to reminisce and tell their son that they love and miss him.
