The only Dublin gym that was refusing to close its doors despite the new Level 5 restrictions has issued an update on its radical decision.
Simon Murphy, owner of the well-known Blanchardstown Westside Gym, hit the headlines yesterday speaking out about his reasons for staying opening.
In an emotional post on the gyms' Instagram page, he pleaded with the Government to reverse their decision on gyms stating that members' mental health would be hugely affected if they were forced to close.
But in a new video on the gym's Instagram this morning, Simon has confirmed that he had visits from Gardai yesterday and after long deliberation, he has decided to close.
He said: "With deep regret. We are so so sorry as we feel we are letting you all down.
"We tried our absolute best today and we are devastated that's its come to this.
"The pressure that has been put on us is immense and we did not have the strength in numbers.
"We can't fight this battle by ourselves. "It will only be for six weeks but it's indefinite in my eyes."
He added: "I hope to be able to welcome you back to Westside when they say it's safe for us to do so."
Earlier this week, he said the gym would defy Government's restrictions and remain open.
That post read: "We know that you have been anxiously awaiting our response to last nights announcement by the Taoiseach.
"We are saddened that our government has not listened to the voice of the Irish people.
"There was not one mention of the importance of exercise in maintaining positive mental health.
"That being said, I'm sure you are wondering what we are planning to do at Westside gym.
"Our plan is simple, we plan to stay open."
