Only BSP has iron will to change face of UP: Mayawati

LUCKNOW: Telling people that it is not sensible to keep getting cheated in elections by parties which have done nothing for the poor from both upper and lower castes, BSP chief Mayawati said it was only her party that had the “iron will” to change the face of Uttar Pradesh.

A day before the first phase of polling, Mayawati said Opposition parties are only peddling lies through their manifestos and the only party that has actually delivered on development is BSP. Taking a break from rallies on Wednesday, Mayawati issued an appeal from Lucknow, asking people to reject communal and caste politics.

“Only BSP with its iron resolve can replace BJP’s narrow and violence-oriented, anti-farmer, anti-poor, non-welfare government and provide a government which will make the state pothole-free, riot- and violence-free, provide employment and development. This is necessary as people of UP are facing unprecedented struggle,” she said.

Saying that the people of the state seemed restless to get rid of the ‘andhbhakt’ government in the state and the Centre and “whose wrong policies and narrow casteist and communal actions” have resulted in rising poverty, unemployment, inflation and migration by those in search of means of living, Mayawati said that people trusted the tried and tested government which believes in welfare and peace for all and hoped that BSP would bring ‘achhe din’ for them.

“It is BSP’s resolution to change the face of UP and work as a government which provides development to make the state free of potholes, crime, riots and provide employment,” the former UP chief minister said.

Hitting out at the Opposition which, she said, was on a fund spending overdrive in elections and was making nonsensical statements, the BSP chief said that people had started getting frustrated with such actions as this did nothing to address their basic problems.

“On top of that, the Union Budget has worked to make things worse as instead of giving solution to people, it has asked them to continue living in such conditions. The country’s resources are in the hands of a few who are close to the ruling party. The Constitution of India speaks about the welfare of everyone, poor, labourers, farmers and other harassed communities,” she said.
