ONLY a handful of flights are now operating through Newcastle Airport after Jetstar scrapped all of its remaining routes.
The airline has ejected from the airport only a fortnight after announcing it would continue flying to both Melbourne and Brisbane.
It dropped the two routes completely on Wednesday in a move that leaves the region with no direct flight to Melbourne.
Virgin scrapped its flights to the Victorian capital as well as Brisbane last week.
On March 18, Jetstar announced it would reduce the frequency of flights on both its Melbourne and Brisbane routes to only seven return services per week.
It cancelled its Gold Coast route indefinitely at the same time.
However, after Queensland imposed mandatory 14-day isolation periods on anyone arriving from interstate, the airline pulled the pin completely.
"We're sad to say farewell for now to Jetstar flights via Newcastle," Newcastle Airport said in a statement.
"We look forward to welcoming back our Jetstar friends and passengers in the near future.
"Currently, flights are bookable from 1 June 2020."
The only remaining airlines operating Newcastle Airport flights are FlyPelican, which is operating some flights to Canberra, Dubbo and Ballina-Byron, and QantasLink which has maintained some flights on its Brisbane route.
