Only a Few Team Affinity Color Storm Cards Are Worth It in MLB The Show 25 – Here’s Which

MLB The Show 25‘s latest Team Affinity update, Color Storm, has had some time to settle in amongst the Diamond Dynasty faithful. And we’ll spare you the suspense — there aren’t many cards available in the program that are absolutely game-changing, especially at this stage of the game cycle, where most regular players should have a decent squad of players at their disposal. That said, there are some real gems when it comes to Color Storm.

Of course, many will favor certain cards for different reasons. One card that might be viewed as useless for one player could be a standout performer on a different team. But even with that taken into account, there are certain predictors for success when it comes to Diamond Dynasty cards.

That said, here are the best Color Storm cards available in MLB The Show 25 Diamond Dynasty.

The Best Team Affinity Color Storm Cards In MLB The Show 25

Ben Joyce – Los Angeles Angels

Despite now being roughly about halfway through the yearly power creep, relief pitching is still likely one of the most immediate areas of need within most Diamond Dynasty squads. Ben Joyce could be a solution to that issue, especially if you need righty arms out of the pen.

Not only does the Angels reliever have good per-9’s and pitching clutch, but Joyce also possesses the sought-after double outlier, having the quirk for both his fastball and sinker. Beyond these overpowering pitches, Joyce also has a slider and a circle change, giving him a pretty effective pitching mix.

Xavier Edwards – Miami Marlins

Maybe I’m biased with this one because I’ve been absolutely tearing it up with him on my own squad, but the Xavier Edwards Color Storm card is among my favorites. He doesn’t have as much pop as some other diamond-rated cards — only possessing 51 and 39 power against righties and lefties, respectively — but his high contact, switch-hitting ability, and stellar baserunning more than make up for that. Unfortunately, his poor defensive attributes at shortstop don’t do him any favors.

Despite his shortcomings in the field, Edwards is the card for you if you need a good leadoff hitter who consistently gets on base (and steals them) and set the table for your heavy hitters in the lineup.

Brent Rooker – Athletics

When it comes to his Color Storm version, Brent Rooker’s card seems to suffer badly from corner-outfielder syndrome: Good at the plate, poor in the field. Despite this archetype, however, Rooker is an amazing card if you are in need of a designated hitter whose only job it is to smack the ball around the park.

The A’s outfielder is pretty much stacked when it comes to his hitting attributes, possessing close to 100 contact against righties and lefties, and over 100 when it comes to his power. The 63 vision certainly isn’t ideal, but his 95 clutch (which can break the 100 threshold if you get him to Parallel 5) will more than make up for it when the at-bats count the most.

At the very least, he’s a good platoon righty bat who can change the game with one swing.

Ezequiel Tovar – Colorado Rockies

While the Colorado Rockies are in the midst of having one of the worst seasons an MLB team can possibly have, shortstop Ezequiel Tovar has remained one of the franchise’s standout players. And his Color Storm card is a reflection of how well-rounded of a player he is.

On paper, Tovar isn’t a game-changer when at the dish. That said, he’s incredibly balanced, having respectable attributes in the contact, power, and clutch departments. Tovar’s 99 fielding and 98 reactions at shortstop make him nothing short of a godsend when it comes to the most important infield position as well.

Tovar will play for anyone decent at hitting in MLB The Show 25, and his Gold Glove-caliber fielding will undoubtedly rob your opponents of several hits.

Jeff Hoffman – Toronto Blue Jays

Early on this year, I personally recommended Jeff Hoffman’s live series card as one of the more underrated relievers in the game, and a card many should get if they were struggling to find relievers on the cheap early on. His Color Storm card is no different in this regard.

Possessing an incredibly effective pitch mix consisting of a 4-seamer, slider, splitter, and sinker, Hoffman has the per-9’s to be a lockdown middle reliever, with none of his per-9 attributes dipping below an 83 rating. And to expand further on his pitch mix, tunneling the fastball, sinker, and splitter will work very well against even the best hitters so long as you’re hitting your spots.

Sure, he doesn’t have an outlier quirk on any of his pitches. But even without that kind of blistering velocity, the fastball will sneak up on hitters so long as you are using the sinker as the primary pitch and mixing in the splitter and slider.
