INDORE: Even though records were made during mega Covid-19 vaccination drive in June last week, no district in Indore division is even near to 36% average first dose coverage among people aged 18-44.
The Indore division was able to cover 36% people in the 18-44 age bracket with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine buoyant by 70% coverage in this age group in Indore district itself.
The figures came to fore through an age group wise review of mass vaccination drives in the state on July 1 after the end of the mega drive. The second district in coverage behind Indore was Burhanpur with only 27% coverage.
Regional Director (Health services) Indore division Dr Ashok Dagaria said, “In the mega drive which began on June 21, the per day targets were allotted to the district in accordance with their capacity and performance so far.”
Indore district remained at advantageous position during it getting major shares of target for inoculation which helped it in inoculation 70% of the population aged in 18-44, said Dr Dagaria.
So, there remains a difference in coverage but in the coming days. Those districts will also cover up, said Dr Dagaria. The worst performing districts remained Khargone, Jhabua and Barwani with 19%, 20%, 20% coverage with the first dose so far.
The records suggested that there were 61.31 lakh people aged 18-44 in eight districts of Indore division. Of those around 18.01 were in Indore district alone, which had already inoculated around 12 lakh people with the first dose.
In districts like Alirajpur, Jhabua the drive was initially hampered because of romours regarding the vaccine leading to impotency, causing deaths. Later, district administrations launched an awareness programme with help of local leaders like sarpanch to motivate people to visit the vaccination sites.
