A man took to Twitter to thank onlookers who left a note on his car after a driving revered into his car, causing extensive damage.
The Volks Wagon Polo car driver was seen as he reversed into the parked car and made no attempt to leave contact information for the owner.
In a tweet, the man said: "Dear VW Polo driver who caused £3,000ish damage to my car and drove off, You’re about to get a hell of a shock.”
The note left by the helpful witness of the incident read: “Hi, We saw a grey Polo reverse into your back right bumper causing damage.
“Their number plate is….
“My telephone number is… if you wish to discuss
“P.S. We have a photo of car”.

After getting an estimate for the repairs from a mechanic, the damage amounted to €6,000.
The tweet led to other people sharing their own stories of accidental knocks.
One user said: “I reversed into someone. Took pics, left a note. She called saying yes loads of damage, about £2k, front bumper a mess. I advised her I hit her rear, she put the phone down and never answered my subsequent calls.
“You can’t win even when trying to do the right thing.”
Another said: “I once saw a Volvo manoeuvring on a car park & driver managed to hit a parked car 3 times, I put a not on car with my phone number.
“Owner was irate at first till I explained I’d seen it happy & gave him all the details of the Volvo.”
Other people praised the kindness of the strangers for going out of their way to make contact with the owner of the car.
They said: “While I am very sorry for the rubbish day you had, I 100% love that there are people out there who will try to do the right thing, who by writing this note & (by you posting it) will make the next person who has a mishap to think before they drive away”.
