Online sellers charge £1000 for toilet roll and pasta to cash in on coronavirus

Packs of toilet roll and dried pasta are being flogged online for sky-high prices as sellers attempt to cash in on coronavirus .

Frantic shoppers have flocked to supermarkets nationwide over the past few weeks to fill trolleys and stockpile food, leaving shelves empty.

Stocks of both toilet paper and pasta appear to have been hit the most - with some stores such as Aldi and Asda even limiting the number of items people can buy.

We previously reported how hand sanitisers were being listed at exorbitant prices with a single 50ml bottle of Carex Bubble Gum Hand Gel for £995 - with the option to pay in monthly installments.

And now people are cashing in on coronavirus chaos by listing loo roll and pasta for hundreds of pounds.

And a pack of opened fusilli pasta is being flogged for £100 - when supermarket 's own range costs just 53p.

One seller in Glasgow is even selling a bargain deal of linguine and loo paper for £30 on Facebook Marketplace.

The listing reads: "In light of the recent shortages, please find advertised a special 2-in-1 bundle. Linguini and Toilet Roll! Serious buyers only."

Elsewhere, another listing for pasta reads: "Barely used bag of pasta, amazing condition, tastes incredible and will hold up in times of crisis. Extremely rare at the moment."

Meanwhile, one seller wrote on a listing for toilet roll: "Just look at the shelves in Tesco this is a rare rare product these days, open to offers highest bidder takes it."

Before shoppers are forced to resort to online marketplaces to get basic essentials, most supermarkets and retailers have toilet roll and pasta in stock online.

The government has advised there is "no need" to stockpile food, and advised anyone self-isolating to order groceries online and get the delivery driver to leave it at the door.
