I Am Greta, a documentary about young climate activist Greta Thunberg, will be screened online from Aug 19 to 25.
A collaboration by Central Pattana, the CCCL Film Festival and US-based Can You Hear Us? campaign, the special online screening is part of the "CCCL Film Tour 2021", which hopes to raise awareness about global warming.
Christopher G Moore, founder of the CCCL, said the movie helps people understand how climate change affects lives and to find a way to alleviate the situation.
"This is the message Greta wants to tell everyone on this planet," he said, referring to the 18-year-old climate campaigner who started protesting by holding a sign "School Strike For Climate" outside the Swedish parliament when she was 15.
I Am Greta is directed by Swedish director Nathan Grossman and tells the story of Thunberg with never-before-seen footage.
Viewers will get to see both her tough and soft sides, her supporters and opponents and her journey from Sweden to New York as she spoke out about global warming. Her stance has inspired youths around the world to act and demand their governments and societies to pay attention to the crisis.
In addition to the screening, there will be various online activities throughout this month, including a post-screening discussion with prominent speakers such as Professor Dr Siwatt Pongpiachan, director of NIDA Center for Research and Development of Disaster Prevention and Management; Kamonnart Ongwandee, country coordinator of Fashion Revolution; and artist/actor/singer Awat Ratanapintha, member of Sustainable Ocean Alliance Thailand (SOA Thailand).
There is no admission fee to the online screening but there is a limit to the number of viewers. Registrations will open tomorrow Aug 10 from noon onwards.
