Online carol concert for Maggie's cancer charity

Maggie’s cancer caring centres are organising an online “carols on your couch” event which will help raise funds for the Airdrie facility and its other centres across Scotland.

The online singalong takes place next Thursday, December 3, and features top Scottish talents with a range of Christmas songs, sketches and readings.

Streaming the hour-long show costs £10 with all proceeds going to support Maggie’s Lanarkshire and the charity’s seven other centres across Scotland in providing practical, financial and emotional support for people with cancer and their loved ones.

It will feature the choir of St Mary’s Cathedral performing a live candlelit carol concert; while the star-studded line-up also includes panto favourites Grant Stott and Andy Gray teaming up for a special performance filmed at the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh, Christmas classics from X Factor star Caitlyn Vanbeck and a reading from former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis.

The online event begins at 7.30pm on December 3 – and will also be screened free of charge in care homes “to bring festive cheer to residents and to say thank you to key workers for their efforts in the pandemic”.

Organisers from Maggie’s say it will be “a Christmas carol concert like no other” and will “light up laptops in homes and care homes nationwide”.

Tickets can be purchased online and further information on complimentary tickets for care homes is available by emailing edinburghfundraising@maggiescentres.org.
