Ongoing siege in Stirling forces police to cordon off area in 'major incident'

Police have cordoned off an area near Stirling city centre in what is thought to be a siege-type incident.

Ambulances have also responded to the stand-off following an emergency call which was made shortly after 6pm tonight.

One witness said: "There are police cars and ambulances in the street.

“We don’t know what to think.

“It looks like there has been some sort of major incident.”

The police action centres on Bridge Street, close to the historic heart of the city.

It is not known if any members of the public have been put at risk as a result of the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said:”Police are currently dealing with an ongoing siege incident in Stirling.

“Due to operational reasons we are unable to give further information at this time.”
