Ongoing incident on Glasgow M8 sees police shut down scene

A section of the M8 in Glasgow city centre has been closed due to an ongoing police incident.

Emergency services have raced to the scene on the eastbound carriageway between J19 and J18.

Vehicles are being temporarily held back by police and motorists being urged to take an alternative route due to long delays.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: “09.45 M8 eastbound J19 and J18 closed due to a police incident.

“Please use alternative route meantime. Long delays on approach - traffic at a stand.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Emergency services were called to the M8 eastbound at Junction 17 in Glasgow around 9.40am on Thursday, 17 September following a report of concern for a woman.

"She has been passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"The road was closed eastbound with a diversion in place and has now reopened."
