'Ongoing incident' in Edinburgh street as police lockdown scene

Police have locked down a busy road in Edinburgh city centre as they deal with an ‘ongoing incident’.

Several marked vehicles have been pictured at the scene on Bank Street blocking traffic from entering a large section of the Old Town.

The exact nature of the incident is currently unknown however officers are understood to have been called shortly before 7.30am on Friday.

Commuters are being warned to expect disruption on public transport while motorists are being told to avoid the area.

A statement from Lothian Buses said: “Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve part of Hanover Street, The Mound and George IV Bridge and are instead diverted via George Street, Princes Street, North Bridge, South Bridge and Chambers Street in both directions until further notice.”

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
