Police race to Edinburgh McDonald's amid ongoing incident on Princes Street

Police have been called to Princes Street in Edinburgh after an incident involving an injured man.

Emergency services were called after a man fell onto the busy road at 8.30am on Tuesday morning.

Officers sealed off the road near McDonald's after an ambulance crew was sent to the scene.

The man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for an examination.

The investigation has resulted in major traffic chaos including tailbacks down Lothian Road, Castle Terrace and the West Approach Road.

Cars are also being affected on Princes Street and Shadwick Place due to the partial road closure.

A spokes person for Police Scotland said: "Police called at 8.30 am on Tuesday, 21 July, 2020, following a report that a man had fallen on to the road on Princes Street near McDonalds, Edinburgh. 

"Ambulance attended and he has been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a precaution. 

"No further police action.

The incident is near Lothian Road and South Charlotte Street.
