Edinburgh police race to hit-and-run as young boy taken to hospital

A large police presence was reported in Edinburgh city centre on Sunday afternoon as cops sealed off a number of streets.

Emergency service activity was reported around Leven Street and Drumdryan Street, with at least eight Police Scotland vehicles spotted in the area.

Drumdryan Street, which runs between Lothian Road and Tarvit Street in the capital's Tollcross area, remains closed off at either end.

Police Scotland have now confirmed that officers were called to reports of a hit and run on Sunday afternoon.

A force spokesperson said: "Around 2pm this afternoon, Sunday, 7 March, 2021, police were called following a report that a man and a young child (male) were involved in a hit and run collision on Drumdryen Street, Tollcross, Edinburgh.

"The child has been taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh for observations.

"The man was not injured.

"Officers are at the scene and enquiries are continuing.
