One year on: A look back at Kilmarnock's last home game with fans in the stands

It has been a tough year for everyone since COVID-19 hit the country.

One year ago today, the first case in Ayrshire was confirmed – the same day that Kilmarnock played their last game in front of a home crowd.

Twelve months on, the Rugby Park side have a new manager in charge after Tommy Wright replaced Alex Dyer, and fans will be looking forward to finally being able to see their new gaffer in the flesh when restrictions are lifted.

But let's look back at the game that fans will remember for mixed reasons...

Killie osted Aberdeen in the Premiership two weeks after being knocked out of the Scottish Cup by the Dons.

So the Ayrshire side were keen to get their revenge on Derek McInnes's side.

And all was going so well as Killie cruised into an early 2-0 lead thanks to a 17th minute Eamonn Brophy penalty followed by a great finish by Greg Kiltie in the 23rd minute.

But Niall McGinn grabbed one back for the Dons in the 38th minute to crank up the pressure on the hosts.

And then just five minutes after half-time, former Killie man Matthew Kennedy set up Connor McLennan who headed home.

After the match, then Killie boss Dyer said: "The team performance was very good in periods.

"We started very well, went two goals up and then we panicked for the last 15 minutes of the first half and carry it on in the second.

"But, when it goes back to 2-2, we started playing again. I'm very disappointed. Like last time, we had chances to win the game."

With vaccines being rolled out, we pray the Rugby Park faithful will be able to cheer their heroes on from the stands sooner rather than later.
