One-year-old twin babies died in hot car after dad 'forgot they were there'

One-year-old twin babies were found dead in a car after their father allegedly forgot they were inside the vehicle.

The victims of the tragedy in New York have been named by ABC 7 as boy and girl twins Mariza and Phoenix Rodriguez.

Their dad allegedly told police he forgot they were in their rear-facing car seats and went to work for an eight hour shift on Friday.

At the end of the day, he returned to his car and started to drive away.

He reportedly drove just two blocks when he noticed the babies in the back seat 'foaming at the mouth'.

The dad, 39, reportedly pulled over, phoned 911, and screamed for help.

He is being questioned by police but has so far not been charged, according to reports.

It's believed the incident is being investigated as an accidental hot car death.

A New York Police Department spokesperson said: "This is a horrific situation.

"It is early in the investigative process.

"We will release more information as it becomes available."
