One-year-old baby taken on a high-speed police chase which ends with three people from Bristol arrested

A one-year-old baby was taken on a high-speed police chase which led to the arrest of three people from Bristol.

The incident happened in Cheltenham on Friday and also led to the seizure of crack cocaine and around £1,000.

Officers followed a vehicle on the A40 after receiving intelligence that it was involved in crime.

Speaking today (March 23), Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Cooper for Avon and Somerset Police described the discovery of the baby in the back seat of the car as 'shocking'.

Thankfully, it was unharmed.

Det Chf Supt Cooper said: "It was shocking for officers to find that after a pursuit, where a vehicle failed to stop, had skipped red lights and reached high speeds, a small child had been inside the car throughout."

Two men and a woman from Bristol were subsequently arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Det Chf Supt Cooper added: “During these times of uncertainty please be reassured that we will still be doing our utmost to tackle criminals and keep our county safe from crime, as this incident shows.

“The coming weeks and months are going to be testing and stressful for everyone.

“Please be patient, kind and tolerant – this will reduce the demands on the police and help us to keep focusing on the things that our communities want us to be dealing with."
