One word used by Arsene Wenger to explain why Liverpool won't win title

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that "destiny" will cause Liverpool to finish behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

The Reds have enjoyed their best season in the Premier League but currently trail Pep Guardiola's side by one point with two games remaining and look set to miss out on a first league title in 29 years.

Jurgen Klopp's side, who have already amassed 91 points, are on course to claim an unwanted record by becoming the first team in Premier League history to finish with over 90 points and not win the title.

Although a City slip-up will put Liverpool back in pole position in the race, the former Gunners boss believes the Reds are the more likely side to drop points.

Rafa Benitez responds to Liverpool fans pleading for a favour from Newcastle

“There’s still hope but they go to Newcastle . Newcastle is not an easy place for Liverpool,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“I’m scared for Liverpool even with one game to go that Manchester City will already have won it but they will fight until the end.

“It looks like there’s a destiny that is against Liverpool.

“They dominated for such a long period in English football and suddenly from '89-90 until today they cannot win the Premier League,” he added.

“Every time there is small things against them.”

Man City returned to the top of the table as Sergio Aguero netted his 20th league goal of the season to secure a vital away win against Burnley on Sunday.

Liverpool target confirms he has reached agreement over summer transfer

Guardiola's side enter their final two matches of the season, against Leicester and Brighton , knowing that wins in both games will guarantee that the Premier League trophy returns to the Etihad for a second consecutive season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool travel to Newcastle next weekend before welcoming Wolves to Anfield on the final day of the season.

Klopp's side also face the prospect of a Champions League semi-final against recently-crowned Spanish champions Barcelona , with the first leg taking place at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.
