NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: One woman was killed and another seriously injured when a car their car rammed into a tree stump in the median ditch of a highway in Sichon district of this southern province on Sunday morning, police said.
An initial investigation revealed that the accident occurred at about 8.15am in heavy rain when the Nissan Almera skidded off the Nakhon Si Thammarat-Surat Thani highway in front of Ban Thung Fai School in tambon Thung Sai.
The car slid into the median ditch and rammed into the stump of a large tree felled by tropical storm Pabuk.
Saranya Saengkham, 33, the driver, and Chonlada Ruraksa, 20, the passenger, were seriously injured. Saranya died later at Sichol Hospital.
The two women were heading for Sichon district when the accident took place.
