A Wallasey ward has Wirral’s highest Covid-19 infection rate, but numbers are falling across the borough.
Seacombe had 109 cases of the virus at a rate of 706 per 100,000 on the latest ward-by-ward figures, which cover the week up to January 22.
Other wards with high infection numbers include Bidston and St James (103), Upton (97), Liscard (95) and Birkenhead and Tranmere (90).
However, there is some promising news as these numbers represent a fall on last week’s figures.
All 22 of Wirral’s council wards saw a fall in cases, including Seacombe which saw a fall from 121 to 109.
On the overall figures for cases in Wirral, which cover the seven days up to January 24, a decrease was also recorded.
Wirral’s infection rate is now 464 per 100,000, with 1,504 cases recorded, that is down from 726 per 100,000 with 2,351 registered cases the week before.

It is also the lowest rate in the Liverpool City Region.
But we should be cautious about this emerging pattern.
The rate of 464 is still far above the rate of 52 per 100,000 recorded just after the end of the second lockdown on December 3.
The positivity rate, that is the percentage of tests which come back as positive, should also temper any optimism.
In the week to January 22, Wirral’s positivity rate was 16.4%, that is a fall on last week’s rate of 18.5%, but a minor one and it is far above the rate of 2.3% seen at the beginning of December.
Elsewhere in the City Region, Knowsley continued to have the highest rate at 774 in the week up to January 24, although that is down from 1,067 last week.
Liverpool’s rate has fallen from 773 to 514, while Halton’s rate decreased from 808 to 582.
St Helens recorded a rate of 630, a welcome decline from 812 last week, while Sefton’s rate fell from 746 to 502.
