One person taken to hospital after two-vehicle crash on M5

One person has been taken to hospital after a two vehicle crash on the M5.

All lanes on the busy motorway were temporarily closed between J19 (Portishead) and J20 (Clevedon) after two vehicles became stranded on the third lane.

We are bringing you live updates on traffic around the crash site here.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said they were called to the two-vehicle crash at around 1.20pm.

They added that two lanes were blocked and there are long tailbacks."

A spokesman said: "One of the drivers is being taken to Southmead Hospital as a precaution."

The motorway re-opened shortly after 2.30pm, but before it did people were reportedly out of their cars and walking on the M5.

One person stuck in queues said: "We've been here so long people are taking their dogs for a walk and someone has started juggling."

A Highways England spokesperson has urged motorists to approach with care.

They said: "#M5 Southbound J19 #Portishead towards J20 #Clevedon. Traffic officers, @ASPolice & @swasFT are on scene. 2 vehicles are stranded in lane 3. Traffic has been stopped at location while emergency services work on scene. Please take care on approach."
