One Show's Alex Jones worried she'd left it too late to have another baby

Alex Jones was worried she'd left it too late to have a third baby, and thought her "time had passed" to fall pregnant again.

The One Show presenter, 44, is already mum to two boys – Teddy, four, and two-year-old Kit – with husband Charlie Thomson, and she candidly confessed that another addition to their family was off the cards.

Alex announced she was expecting her third baby, a girl, back in March, and in a new interview with Closer magazine, the much-loved TV host said she and her husband were so overjoyed to be expecting again that they've dubbed their unborn child a 'gift'.

"It's a huge gift. I suppose deep down I would never have said it because we were so lucky to have two lovely boys, but having a girl was always something that was there.

"I thought out time had passed and it wasn't going to happen," Alex shared.

The presenter also discussed her joy at having a girl, and said she’s looking forward to seeing how much husband Charlie will adore the new addition to their adorable family.

“We both said how amazing three boys would be. Then when we opened the email which told us what sex the baby was, his little face was a picture,” Alex said.

“We were too scared to say it, but I think we both felt the same. We both secretly thought it would be amazing if it was a girl. It’ll be really interesting to see the different dynamics.

“I’m such a pushover with the boys – I’m wrapped around their fingers. But Charlie not so much. I bet the dynamic shifts completely with a little girl,” she added.

Alex discussed how she’s handling being pregnant during a global health crisis, and due to the lockdown restrictions to prevent infection, she’s not seen a midwife face-to-face.

“I’m grateful for the fact it’s our third. I haven’t seen any midwives at all in person during the pandemic. I’ve had two scans and that’s it. For me that’s okay though, because by this time around I hope I’d know if something was wrong.

“At the minute I’m just hoping everything is okay because I feel okay and I think I’d know,” she said.

Despite not having any pregnancy cravings during her third pregnancy, Alex did reveal she’s experiencing an unusual aversion to one thing in particular.

“My taste buds have changed now because I now find the smell of wine horrific. I kept trying to smell it, hoping it isn’t permanent. But it’s good, because it means I don’t want to drink any wine,” she quipped.
