One person 'unaccounted for' after fire breaks out in Leamington Spa

One person is "unaccounted for" after a massive fire broke out in Leamington Spa today with emergency still working to tackle the blaze.

Residents are being evacuated and others have been urged to remain indoors shutting both windows and doors.

In the last hour, Warwickshire Police have tweeted to say one person is yet to be accounted for since the fire broke out earlier today at around 10.40am.

The incident on Juno Drive, Leamington, still has a large emergency service presence dealing with the blaze, reports Birmingham Live.

Smoke from the fire can be seen from "45 miles away".

Posting to their Twitter page at around 1.45pm, for force said: "Officers remain at the scene of the fire on Juno Drive Leamington.

"One person currently remains unaccounted for, emergency services are working hard to locate them. Local businesses and houses have been evacuated and road closures remain in place. Please avoid the area."

Matt Western, MP for Warwick and Leamington said the scale of the blaze was "staggering".

He tweeted: "The factory fire in Juno Drive has shaken Leamington to its core.

"The scale of the blaze is staggering. I’ve spoken with police and fire chiefs who are increasingly confident of containing it. Please adhere to guidance. Keep 70m+ away and keep doors and windows closed."

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Warwickshire Fire are dealing with a large building fire in the Leamington area.

“Local residents advised to keep doors and windows closed and a minimum 100 metres away from the incident.

“WFRS crews are currently in attendance at a fire at an industrial premises at Juno Drive, Leamington Spa.

“Properties in the vicinity are being evacuated.

“If you live within 70 metres of the site, please keep windows and doors closed.

“We are working closely with @warkspolice.”
