One person treated after three-vehicle crash closed Durham road for several hours

One person was treated at the scene of a three-vehicle crash in County Durham which shut the road for several hours.

Emergency services were called to a three-vehicle collision on the A688 near Spennymoor shortly before 7am on Tuesday morning, (June 1).

Police confirmed the incident involved a Volkswagen Golf, Vauxhall Antara and a Honda Accord.

Alongside Durham Constabulary, the North East Ambulance Service also attended the scene and confirmed it treated one patient at the scene.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 6.46am to a road traffic collision on the A688 at Binchester.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and treated and discharged one patient at the scene."

Durham Constabulary closed the road in both directions shortly after 7am and urged drivers to avoid the area.

The force said the emergency services were "working on getting the road open as soon as possible", before the road reopened shortly after 10am.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called to reports of a three-vehicle collision on the A688 near Spennymoor shortly before 7am this morning (June 1).

"It involved a Volkswagen Golf, Vauxhall Antara and a Honda Accord.

"Officers have been joined by Ambulance at the scene.

"The road is currently closed both ways, drivers are asked to find an alternative route."
