One person taken to the RVI following collision on the A189 in Northumberland

One person has been taken to hospital following a collision in Northumberland.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 7am on Sunday to reports of a crash on the A189.

The Northbound carriageway was closed by police between the A192 Three Horse Shoes Roundabout and Blyth and it remains closed while investigations are being carried out .

One person was assessed by paramedics at the scene of the collision and discharged while one was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.

The person's condition is not known at this time.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 6.48am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision on the A189 in Cramlington.

"We dispatched six resources which comprised of two Hazardous Area Response Teams, two double-crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic and an officer.

"One patient was transported to the RVI and a second patient was assessed and discharged on scene."

Northumbria Police has been contacted for comment.
