One person taken to the RVI after collision between cyclist and car on Jesmond Road

A person is in hospital after a collision between a car and a cyclist in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to Jesmond Road in Newcastle on Friday afternoon after the crash near Sandyford Road .

Two patients were treated on scene by paramedics and it has been confirmed that one was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

The extent of any injuries is not known at this time.

Police diverted traffic away from the scene and through Sandyford while they dealt with the collision and warned of heavy delays.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 5.48pm to reports of a road traffic collision between a cyclist and a car.

“We sent two ambulances, a rapid response car, a Hazardous Area Response Team, a trauma vehicle and a doctor.

“We tended to two patients on scene and one person has been taken to the RVI.”
