One person taken to the RVI after car overturns on Shields Road in Byker

A person has been taken to hospital after a car overturned in Byker.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Shields Road on Tuesday morning following the incident near to the Byker Shopping Centre.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police confirmed that there have been no serious injuries.

Pictures taken at the scene show a white car on its roof with significant damage.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.50am to reports that a car had rolled over on Shields Road in Byker.

"One person had suffered hand injuries and has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary A&E by ambulance."
