One person taken to hospital by air ambulance following collision in County Durham

One person has been taken to hospital by air ambulance after a collision on a road between Murton and Hetton-le-Hole.

The North East Ambulance Service was called to a report of a road traffic collision on the B1285 at 5.45pm on Monday.

A rapid response paramedic, an ambulance crew and two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene of the collision.

The Great North Air Ambulance was also requested to support.

One person was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for further treatment.

A spokeswoman from the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 5.45pm this evening to reports of a road traffic collision on the B1285 between Hetton and Murton.

"We dispatched a rapid response paramedic, an ambulance crew and two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team, as well as requesting support from Great North Air Ambulance.

"One person has been flown to the RVI."
