One person received hospital treatment after a two-vehicle crash on the A467 on Wednesday.
Gwent Police closed a section of the A467, known as the Risca bypass, in both directions after the crash occurred on the northbound carriageway near the Forge Road roundabout and Tregwilym Road in Bassaleg.
The Welsh Ambulance Service said they received a report at 7.24pm of a multi-vehicle crash on the road.
Two rapid response vehicles were sent and one emergency ambulance.
One person was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. The ambulance service said they are unable to provide information on the person's condition.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the incident involved two vehicles and crews from Duffryn and Malpas attended the scene to help paramedics.
A fire service spokesperson said: "At approximately 7.29pm on the 3 rd of March 2021, we received reports of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A467 Northbound near Forge Road Roundabout to Tregwilym Road, Bassaleg.
"Crews fom Duffryn and Malpas attended the scene and assisted paramedics.
"A stop message was received at approximately 9.05pm."
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 7.24pm last night, Wednesday 3 February to reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision in the Rogerstone area of Newport.
"We attended scene with two rapid response vehicles and one emergency ambulance. One person was taken to University Hospital Wales Cardiff for treatment."
Gwent Police have been approached for further information regarding the incident.
