One person has been taken to hospital after a crash near Newcastle city centre.
The collision happened on the A167 (M) Central Motorway at its junction with Claremont Road at around 5.54pm on Thursday.
Police, fire and paramedics have been called to the scene and the road was initially closed in both directions.
A Northumbria Police spokesman confirmed one person has been taken to hospital, but their condition is unknown.
He added: “Police, fire and ambulance are in attendance of a multi-vehicle crash on the A167 (M) at its junction with Claremont Road.
"One member of the public has been taken to hospital by ambulance.
"The southbound carriageway remains closed and one lane of the northbound carriageway has been opened.
"It appears one vehicle has hit the central reservation and that's what has caused both carriageway to become blocked."
