One person taken to hospital after head-on collision which also injured child on Scotswood Road

One person has been taken to hospital after two vehicles collided head-on on Scotswood Road.

Three other people were also injured in the crash including a young child who was treated on scene for minor injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Sunday afternoon and the road was temporarily closed near to the Honda garage.

Buses were also forced to divert but then the road was fully reopened shortly before 2pm.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 12.55pm to reports of a head-on collision on Scotswood Road near the Honda garage.

“We dispatched two paramedic ambulances and a rapid response.

“It was initially believed that up to six people were involved but everyone was out of the cars before we arrived.

“We treated four patients in total. One for suspected pelvic injuries, another with head and neck pain and a child with minor injuries.

“One person has been taken to the RVI.”
