One person has been taken to hospital after a five-vehicle collision.
The multi-vehicle crash happened between the B1326 and A19 Moor Farm roundabout, Annitsford, at 8.35am on Thursday.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and the road was closed for several hours.
The ambulance assessed two patients at the scene and a third person was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
One lane on the road remained closed while recovery teams cleared up the collision.
Police officers warned drivers in the area of "increased congestion" and urged motorists to avoid the area.
The road fully reopened at 11am.
A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision at Moor Farm Roundabout at 8.40am this morning.
"We dispatched two ambulance crews; they assessed two patients on scene who did not require hospital treatment, and transported a third patient to the RVI.”
