'One person is not going to affect what I've done in my career' - Exclusive interview with Bristol Rovers legend Chris Lines

"It was disappointing how it was handled. It's not just me that was upset, it was every person in that stadium."

The latest Bristol Born and Bred star interview is with former Bristol Rovers midfielder Chris Lines.

It's been over a month since the cultured midfielder marked the end of his second spell at the Gas by making his 500th career appearance in front of a packed Memorial Stadium.

However, it was not the farewell Lines had envisaged as he emerged as a 83rd-minute substitute almost against the will of manager Graham Coughlan, who went on to downplay the significance of the achievement after the match.

For Lines it was a sad and difficult departure following a tough season in which he admits has been a challenge both on and off the field.

In an exclusive hour-long conversation with Neil Maggs at WISE Campus at SGS College, the 33-year-old discusses the situation around his exit and his uncomfortable relationship with Coughlan.

Lines also looks ahead to life at his new club Northampton Town and the chance to "prove a few people wrong" and takes an extensive look back over his stories career which took him from avid Gashead to starring for his boyhood club.

He touches on his time rising through the ranks as a schoolboy prospect, first at Bristol City under the guidance of Frank Jacobs and then onto life at Rovers and growing up as a footballer in your hometown and all the pressure and scrutiny that entails.

Lines and Darrell Clarke were especially close and the moment when the iconic Gas manager left the club last December proved a tearful and traumatic time for all involved.

But Lines speaks warmly and excitedly about the secret ingredient that made the glory days under Clarke of back-to-back promotions so special.

Sit back and watch this revealing and fascinating interview with one of Bristol Rovers' all-time modern greats.
