'One per cent come true': Port coach as rumours swirl

Ken Hinkley reckons about one per cent of footy rumours come true as speculation swirls on several fronts at Port Adelaide.

Hinkley will end his 13-year stint as head coach after two more games, handing over to assistant Josh Carr.

The Power coach has been linked with numerous AFL jobs next season, including as Carlton's next football operations boss.

But Port's current football manager Chris Davies has also been touted for the role at the Blues.

"Everyone gets linked everywhere, don't they, this time of year when there's an opportunity," Hinkley told reporters on Wednesday.

"Me, Chris, players - we all get linked at different times.

"What I do know about footy is that about one per cent come true."

Hinkley has maintained he won't decide his future until after a post-season break.

If Hinkley joined Carton - who have axed Brad Lloyd as head of football - he would re-unite with Blues coach Michael Voss, who was a long-time assistant at Port.

Carlton host the Power on Saturday afternoon at Marvel Stadium.

"We don't talk until after the game ... normal practice for us," Hinkley said when asked if he had spoken with Voss.

Hinkley also took some delight in batting away questions about Port's pursuit for St Kilda ace Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera.

"From my point of view, I get to bail out on this question," he said.

"I don't know ... history would tell you that long-term, late in the season, those decisions do seem to go a certain way.

"But I'm not going to make any prediction on any of that because I have no information and I can't help you in any way to predict the outcome.

"I do know that the young man that everyone's talking about, I can understand why everyone's talking about him."

Nor would Hinkley bite on rumours Collingwood forward Beau McCreery has toured Port's headquarters while considering a four-year offer from the Alberton club.

"I have not seen Beau at the footy club," he said.

"If he has been here, I might not recognise him, but I think he's trying to get over a hamstring to get back and ready to play football for Collingwood."
