One of Wirral's oldest restaurants is now number one on TripAdvisor

Wirral has a new number one restaurant according to TripAdvisor and it's not what you’d expect.

In recent years Wirral’s top restaurants have included a quirky beach side cafe, a traditional Greek taverna and even a Michelin star restaurant.

Now, Wimpy has taken the coveted TripAdvisor spot.

The Birkenhead restaurant, which is Merseyside’s last Wimpy, raised its hygiene rating from one to five stars last year and has since seen an influx of excellent TripAdvisor reviews.

Wimpy is tucked away inside the Grange & Pyramids shopping complex in Princes Pavement and is still serving the old favourites we all remember.

The restaurant has been there for more than 40 years, and while it has been renovated over the years, it’s still classic Wimpy.

All meals are served on Wimpy plates and dishes include the original Quarterpounder with Special Sauce, a fish finger burger and a veggie beanburger.

There’s also the Bender in a Bun - a round hotdog in a barm, with cheese, onion and ketchup.

The restaurant has rave reviews on TripAdvisor and has a rating of 4.5.

One reviewer claimed Wimpy makes the "best burger in Birkenhead" (Alistair Houghton)

A recent review even claimed Wimpy makes the “best burger in Birkenhead”.

Another said: “Imagine a McDonalds or Burger King with a warmer personal touch. I did not feel like a face in a busy queue to be whizzed through. This Wimpy was lovely and relaxed.”

A third added: “Decided to try Wimpy on a recent visit to Birkenhead (can't remember when I was last in the area it's that long ago).

“I was expecting a 'McDonalds' type of experience. HOW WRONG COULD I HAVE BEEN.

Table service, excellent menu, food cooked to order, great customer service. Will definitely come back.”

Wimpy is open from 9:30am - 6pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
